What the range convection fan repair
involves.

Range convection fan repair keeps the air moving inside the oven. Behind a cover on the oven's back wall, a motor spins a blade that pulls air from the cavity and blows it back out around the edges, and on many models a ring element around the blade heats that air for true convection. When the motor bearings wear, the fan squeals, rattles or turns slowly; when the motor fails or the board stops powering it, the convection modes bake no better than regular bake, or the oven posts a fan code. A loose blade or a burned ring element causes the same complaints. The repair tests the motor, the blade, the ring element and the relay, then replaces the failed part from inside the cavity or from the back of the range.

How the visit goes

Convection fan repair,
step by step.

Replace the motor, blade or element, from inside the cavity or with the range pulled forward, then run a convection bake to confirm.

01

Run a convection mode and listen and look for the fan: whether it turns, how fast, and what noise it makes.

02

Remove the fan cover inside the oven and check the blade for looseness, rubbing or damage.

03

Measure the motor, the ring element and the relay that powers them, and check the wiring at the back.

04

Replace the motor, blade or element, from inside the cavity or with the range pulled forward, then run a convection bake to confirm.

Before you call

Tell us this when you book

  1. Whether the fan does not turn, runs noisily or runs slowly
  2. Whether regular bake still works
  3. Whether the display has shown a fan code
  4. Whether the noise continues after the oven is off

Low to moderate,
on the site's scale.

A loose blade or a ring element stays near the low end. A motor reached only by sliding a heavy range out of its opening moves the job toward the middle of the scale.

All service areas

Tampa BayFL · 31 areas

Humid Tampa Bay air can reach the convection motor behind a range oven's back panel, and a fan that grinds or starts slowly is replaced from inside the cavity with the range left where it stands.

OrlandoFL · 30 areas

In an Orlando rental or family range, a convection fan that quit is easy to miss until cookies on one side of the tray come out pale, and the repair confirms whether the motor or the power reaching it has failed.

Miami / South FloridaFL · 47 areas

In a South Florida condo, a slide-in range's convection fan is reached through the oven's rear panel, so the range stays in its cutout while the motor and blade are replaced.

New York MetroNY · 75 areas

In a New York apartment where the range oven is the only oven, a noisy convection fan is worth fixing before it seizes, and its motor, blade and mounting are checked in one visit.

HoustonTX · 36 areas

Houston dual-fuel ranges often pair the convection fan with a third element behind it, and a convection mode that runs but bakes like a plain oven usually means that rear element has failed while the fan still turns.

ChicagoIL · 50 areas

A range oven that carries a Chicagoland family's winter baking wears its convection motor bearings, and a squeal or a hum without movement is fixed with a new motor installed from the front.

Los AngelesCA · 95 areas

Los Angeles pro-style ranges with two ovens may put convection in one or both, and the repair checks which cavity's fan has failed and matches the motor to that particular oven.

San DiegoCA · 31 areas

On ranges within sight of the San Diego shore, a convection blade rusted onto its shaft is one reason the fan scrapes or stalls, and the motor and blade are replaced as a set.

San Francisco Bay AreaCA · 74 areas

In the European ranges some Bay Area remodels chose, the fan drives modes such as true convection and defrost, so a failed motor quietly disables several settings, and the visit confirms which before the motor is ordered.

Questions about
the range convection fan repair.

My range oven still bakes, but convection mode does nothing extra. Why?
The fan or the convection element may have stopped while the regular bake and broil elements still work. Open the door briefly during a convection bake: if the fan at the back is not turning, the motor or the relay feeding it is tested.
The fan in my oven squeals when it runs. Is it about to fail?
A squeal or grinding usually means worn motor bearings. The fan may keep working for a while, but it tends to slow and then stop, and replacing the motor before then keeps the oven usable.
Is the fan I hear after turning the oven off the convection fan?
Often not. Many ranges have a separate cooling fan behind the control panel that runs until the oven has cooled. It is normal for that fan to run for a while after cooking.
