Fisher & Paykel ranges,
specifically.

Fisher and Paykel sells gas, dual-fuel, induction and electric ranges in the US, plus a 48-inch model with gas burners and induction zones on one top. Its professional ranges show A and F alert codes on a touch display, and the user guides ask owners to leave the power on while a hot oven cools.

The Fisher & Paykel lineup

What is particular
to Fisher & Paykel.

The US lineup runs from Series 7 gas and electric ranges to Series 9 dual-fuel and induction and Series 11 induction and gas-plus-induction models, in Professional, Classic and Contemporary styles. The series and model decide which user guide and alert table apply.

Leave the power on

Fisher and Paykel tells owners not to switch off the range's power when an alert code appears, unless the instructions for that code say to. The cooling fans need power to protect the oven parts and the cabinets from stored heat.

Relight, except in an outage

A burner blown out by a draft or spill is detected and relights on its own. In a power failure it will not, so Fisher and Paykel asks you to turn that dial to OFF so gas cannot escape.

SmartZones and pan detection

The induction ranges pair two zones into a SmartZone for large pans and griddles. If no suitable pan is found on a zone, the display flashes with the heat setting and the zone switches itself off after 10 minutes.

A few low, strong burners

Every burner on the dual-fuel range simmers down to 1,300 BTU/hr, and selected burners reach 23,500 BTU/hr on natural gas. Knowing which burner should be the powerful one helps tell a weak flame from a normal one.

Parts

Igniters, induction boards, door locks and sensors are ordered by model number. Parts for older or less common models may be ordered after the first visit.

Repair or replace

Fisher and Paykel's alert codes point to parts such as a door lock, a sensor or a board that can be repaired. Replacement is worth weighing on an older range that needs a board and an induction generator together.

Questions about
Fisher & Paykel ranges.

Why does my Fisher and Paykel igniter keep clicking after the burner lights?
The user guide gives dirty or wet igniters as the cause and cleaning them as the fix. Let the burner parts dry fully; if the clicking goes on, book a visit.
Should I switch off my Fisher and Paykel range when it shows an alert code?
Not unless the steps for that code say so. The cooling fans need power to carry heat away; for an F code, wait until the fans stop and the oven is cool before switching off at the wall.
Can I use the gas burners on my Fisher and Paykel range in a power outage?
The burners can still be used, but if a flame blows out during an outage it will not relight by itself. Turn that dial to OFF straight away, and leave the kitchen if you smell gas.
Why is the display flashing on my Fisher and Paykel induction range?
A display that alternates with the heat setting means the zone has no suitable pan: it is on the wrong zone, not made for induction, or too small. Without a pan, the zone turns off after 10 minutes.
