Range
guides,
read first.

A range repair guide is only useful if it answers the question you actually have, so these are split by what you are trying to find out — is this worth paying for, what is that noise, what can I check myself — rather than by which part of the appliance it concerns.

The work itself

Every guide here ends in the same place: what a technician actually does about it, in the order it gets done.

Curious what a range repair runs to? That has its own page rather than a line here, because no one can give a fair number before a technician has had the range out and opened it — range repair cost.

When reading
is not enough.

If the checks in a guide did not settle it, a technician picks up from there. The visit, stop by stop.

Questions about
the guides.

Can a guide take the place of a technician?
No. The guides explain how a range works and which checks an owner can safely make, so the simple causes are ruled out and the rest can be described clearly. Where a guide comes near a gas fitting, live wiring or the inside of the control panel, it tells you to stop.
Are the guides written for my brand?
Most are written for a kind of range rather than one maker, because gas burners, radiant elements and induction zones behave much alike across brands. Where a make does something its own way the guide says so, and your owner's manual always comes first.
Which range guide should I read first?
When the range is misbehaving today, the problem pages are the faster route, arranged by what you notice. The guides run longer and suit a question you have time for: why a flame burns yellow, what to check before a visit, or whether an older range is worth keeping.
What are the range guides based on?
Each guide lists the sources behind its specific claims, such as manufacturer manuals and published gas and fire safety guidance. Where no source is given, the point is offered as what our technicians have seen on ranges, never as a rule.
