Troubleshooting,
guide by guide.
This section holds the hands-on checks: resetting a range's power, confirming the gas supply without touching a fitting, clearing locks and modes on the control, cleaning and reseating burner caps, and finding the model tag that everything else depends on. None of it calls for tools beyond a flashlight and a straight pin.

Five range checks to make before booking a visit
Range checks you can safely make.
Each check is useful whichever way it turns out. A breaker reset or a dried burner cap may end the problem outright, and one that changes nothing still narrows the search, so the visit that follows starts from evidence rather than guesswork.
The limits are written into every guide. Nothing here asks you to slide the range away from the wall, release the anti-tip bracket, open the terminal block, lift a glass top or loosen anything on the gas line, and a smell of gas ends every check on the spot.
Not sure where to start? The short answerFive range checks to make before booking a visit
Five range troubleshooting checks settle many calls before a visit: the power supply, whether 240-volt breaker or 120-volt plug; the gas shutoff on a gas or dual-fuel range; locks, demo mode and delay start on the control; burner caps, knobs and coils on the top; and one plain test bake in the oven.
The short answerCleaning burner caps and setting them back so every flame is even
To clean burner caps on a gas range, wait until the top is cool, lift off grates, caps and heads, wash caps by hand in warm water with a mild cleaner, clear clogged ports with a straight pin, and dry everything completely.
The short answerWhere the model tag sits on a freestanding or slide-in range
The range model number is on a tag or label that most makers place on the oven's front frame behind the door or on the frame of the storage drawer.
