What A1
actually means.
A1 is the alert code a Fisher and Paykel range oven shows when it has overheated. Every oven function is suspended, the oven beeps five times, and the code stays until the cavity has cooled.

What to do when A1 shows on the rangeKind of codeOven heating
The oven under the burners called for heat and the cavity did not warm the way the control planned. On an electric oven a bake or broil element that has burned open is the usual cause; on a gas oven the igniter and the valve it opens come first. The wiring and the relay are checked before the board takes the blame.
Usually leads toBake and broil elements
An electric range oven that stays cold, heats only from above or below, or will not broil, traced to the elements, their terminals or the relay that switches them.
Shows up asRange Oven Temperature Wrong
Recipes burn or come out underdone, and an oven thermometer disagrees with the temperature set on the range.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Fisher & Paykel's own guidance for A1 on its ranges. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Leave the power on and let the oven cool; the cooling fans need power to do their job.
Once the oven is cool and the door has unlocked, A1 clears on its own; if it keeps coming back, book a visit.
What not to do
A1 does not mean you should switch the range off at the breaker. Fisher and Paykel warns against cutting power to a hot oven while an alert is showing.

Gas range
Open flames on top and a gas-fired oven below, all fed by one supply line behind the range and lit by igniters rather than a match.
Electric range
Coil elements or radiant elements under a smooth glass top, with an electric oven below, all running on a dedicated 240-volt circuit.
Dual-fuel range
Gas burners on top and an electric oven below, the combination most professional-style ranges use, needing both a gas line and a 240-volt circuit.
