Miele ranges,
specifically.

Miele's US ranges come in all-gas, dual-fuel and induction versions, and the dual-fuel and induction models put a full Miele oven with its own menus under the range top. Many Miele range calls start at the display, where a setting such as Demo mode or System Lock can look like a failed oven.

The Miele lineup

What is particular
to Miele.

This page draws on Miele's operating instructions for the 30-inch dual-fuel range HR 1924-3 G DF and the 30-inch induction range HR 1622-3 I. The US lineup of 21 ranges also includes all-gas models and 36- and 48-inch dual-fuel ranges, so the label decides which instructions apply.

Every igniter sparks at once

Turning any burner knob makes the igniters spark on all burners, and Miele says that is normal. A brief extra click or two can come from the automatic re-ignition when a draft touches a flame.

A wet igniter will not spark

Miele notes that a wet or dirty igniter gives no spark, so the burner will not light. After a failed try, the manual asks you to turn the knob off and air the room or wait at least a minute.

Two Self Clean lock codes

F32 means the door lock for Self Clean did not lock, and F33 means it did not open. Knowing which one appeared tells the technician which way the lock got stuck.

The probe and the microwave

Miele's wireless food probe can lose its signal when a microwave runs nearby, because the two use a similar frequency range. Turning the microwave off is the first check before the probe is replaced.

Parts

Miele sells replacement wireless probes through its dealers and its own service. Other parts were not checked on a Miele source, so no lead time is promised before the model and serial number are read.

Repair or replace

Demo mode, System Lock, a microwave near the probe and the safety shut-off need a setting change or a restart, not a part. On a Miele range, a lock, igniter or board repair is usually the sensible path, since a replacement must match the same cutout and gas or electric supply.

Questions about
Miele ranges.

All the burners on my Miele click when I light one. Is that a problem?
No. Miele says a spark is made on all burners whenever a control knob is turned. One or two extra clicks during cooking can be the automatic re-ignition responding to a draft.
My Miele burner will not light after I cleaned the range top. Why?
A wet or dirty igniter makes no spark. Dry it with a cloth, turn the knob off and wait at least a minute before trying again.
Why does my Miele oven show menus but never heat?
Demo mode may be on. Turn it off under Settings, Showroom Program, Demo Mode.
The induction zone on my Miele range turned off after a few minutes with a flashing symbol. Why?
Miele turns a zone off after 3 minutes if it does not recognize the cookware. Use a pan with a magnetic base large enough for the zone.
