Whirlpool ranges,
specifically.

Whirlpool sells gas, electric and induction ranges in freestanding and slide-in styles, many with air fry. Its help site lists more than a hundred range codes, from two-part F codes to four-character ones, and nearly all start with a one-minute breaker reset.

The Whirlpool lineup

What is particular
to Whirlpool.

Whirlpool ranges are 30-inch gas, electric and induction models, with freestanding and slide-in versions and smart and Energy Star options. Fuel type and whether the top is coil, glass or induction set the parts a visit needs.

The range top guards itself

Whirlpool glass tops switch a cooking area off when it overheats and show a C81, C82 or C83 code. After five minutes of cooling the area can be used again, so one code after a long boil is not a failure.

Bake and broil elements have their own codes

Whirlpool's FE codes separate the main oven's bake element (FEE6) from its broil element (FEE7). That tells the technician which element and harness to test before the visit starts.

Dual and triple elements

Some Whirlpool glass tops have dual- and triple-size elements that combine rings for larger pans. Elements also cycle on and off to protect the glass, so a ring that stops glowing is often working as designed.

Slide-in or freestanding matters

Slide-ins sit between cabinets with front controls, while freestanding ranges have finished sides and can stand alone. The two install differently, which changes how a technician reaches the parts.

Parts

Bake and broil elements, igniters, sensors and surface elements for Whirlpool ranges are widely stocked because the same parts serve several Whirlpool Corporation brands. Control boards and induction parts are more model-specific.

Repair or replace

Elements, igniters, sensors and door parts are inexpensive repairs on a Whirlpool range and nearly always worth doing. A cracked glass top on an older, basic range is the usual case where replacing the range compares well.

Questions about
Whirlpool ranges.

Why did my Whirlpool range shut off an element and show C81?
That area overheated and the automatic shutoff switched it off. Let it cool for five minutes and turn it back on; if it keeps happening, book a visit.
Why does an element on my Whirlpool glass top stop glowing?
Whirlpool elements cycle on and off to keep the glass from getting too hot, and low settings may not glow at all. Steady heat without glow is normal.
Does Whirlpool make an induction range?
Yes. Whirlpool's range page offers gas, electric and induction models.
What does FEE6 on a Whirlpool range point to?
The bake element in the main oven or its wiring. The broil element has a separate code, FEE7.
