GE Profile ranges,
specifically.

GE Profile is the only GE Appliances name that covers all four range types on GE's own listings: gas, electric, dual fuel and induction. Many current models are smart slide-ins with front controls, and the induction line adds an in-oven camera on some models and Precision Cooking with paired probes and pans.

The GE Profile lineup

What is particular
to GE Profile.

GE Profile sells 30-inch gas, electric, dual-fuel and induction ranges, freestanding and slide-in, with double-oven versions in gas and electric. A dual-fuel or induction Profile has more electronics than a basic GE range, so the model number decides what a technician carries.

An element that rejects the pan

Profile induction elements flash their power setting when the pan is not magnetic, too small, off-center or not flat on the glass. GE's own first check is a magnet on the bottom of the pan.

Power cuts after 30 seconds without a pan

If a pan is lifted off or left off-center for more than 30 seconds, the element switches itself off. That is a safety step, not a failed coil, and the setting has to be chosen again.

A fan cools the induction top

When a setting drops or an element turns off by itself, GE points to a hot range top and an internal fan that needs time to cool it, and asks you to check whether the pan boiled dry. A top that keeps cutting out with normal cooking is worth a visit.

Precision Cooking runs one element at a time

Profile induction ranges drive Precision Cooking with a paired probe or connected pan, but only on one element at once. Trying a second makes the first one flash with a message, which is a limit of the feature and not a failure.

Parts

Oven sensors, bake elements and gas parts are shared widely across GE Appliances ranges and are usually easy to get. Induction boards, coils and smart control boards are specific to a model and can take longer to arrive.

Repair or replace

Sensor, lock and element repairs make sense on any Profile range. On an induction model, a failed power board is still usually worth repairing, because the glass top and coils are often fine; a cracked glass top together with a failed board is the case to weigh against replacement.

Questions about
GE Profile ranges.

Why does a GE Profile induction element flash and not heat?
It is telling you the pan will not work there. GE's list is a pan a magnet will not hold, one below the minimum size, one off-center or one that does not sit flat.
Why did my GE Profile induction element turn itself off?
It happens if the pan was off the ring for more than 30 seconds, or if the top got hot and the internal fan needs time to cool it. Check whether the pan boiled dry before booking a visit.
Is there a dual-fuel GE Profile range?
Yes. GE Appliances lists one dual-fuel range, a smart slide-in with front controls, and it is a GE Profile. It pairs gas burners with an electric oven.
Does a GE Profile range use the same codes as a GE range?
The F-codes come from the one list GE Appliances publishes for its ranges and wall ovens. The induction messages are extra and are explained in the Profile manual.
