What U
actually means.
ILVE uses U for two things: a pan that is missing or not suited to induction, and the food-warming position of the knob at 149°F. A lower-case u marks the 108°F warming position, and warming runs for at most 120 minutes.

What to do when U shows on the rangeKind of codeSurface elements and induction
A radiant element, a coil or an induction zone did not heat the way the control expected, or ran hotter than it should. The pan, the switch behind the knob and the wiring to the element come first; on induction, the power board and the coil under the glass are checked next. A zone that will not switch off, or a crack in the glass, means the breaker goes off before anything else.

Electric zones that stay cold, run too hot or will not switch off, and cracked or damaged glass on radiant and induction models.
Shows up asInduction Range Not Detecting Pan
An induction zone flashes, beeps, shows its no-pan symbol or switches itself off, even with a pan sitting right on it.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from ILVE's own guidance for U on its ranges. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Look at the knob first: if it sits between off and 1, you have selected warming, not a power level.
If the knob is on a power level, try a pan a magnet holds firmly; book a visit if U stays with such a pan.
Still there?
It usually turns into surface element and glass top repair. Book with the code and the model number.
What not to do
U on an ILVE is not automatically a failed coil or a bad pan, since the warming setting uses the same letter.
