What E2
actually means.
E2 on a legacy Wolf induction range reports a coil temperature that is too high. The coil is the winding under the glass that makes the magnetic field, and the zone stops heating while it is too hot.

What to do when E2 shows on the rangeKind of codeSurface elements and induction
A radiant element, a coil or an induction zone did not heat the way the control expected, or ran hotter than it should. The pan, the switch behind the knob and the wiring to the element come first; on induction, the power board and the coil under the glass are checked next. A zone that will not switch off, or a crack in the glass, means the breaker goes off before anything else.

Electric zones that stay cold, run too hot or will not switch off, and cracked or damaged glass on radiant and induction models.
Shows up asRange Surface Element Not Heating
One coil or glass-top zone on an electric range stays cold, heats only weakly, or will not respond while the others work.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Wolf's own guidance for E2 on its ranges. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Turn the zone off, take the pan away and let the glass cool.
Reset the breaker for about 30 seconds; if E2 returns in normal cooking, book a visit.

It usually turns into surface element and glass top repair. Book with the code and the model number.
What not to do
E2 does not mean the pan is the wrong kind. It is a heat report from under the glass, not a pan-detection message.

Dual-fuel range
Gas burners on top and an electric oven below, the combination most professional-style ranges use, needing both a gas line and a 240-volt circuit.
Induction range
A glass top that heats the pan itself through copper coils and power boards, over an electric oven, with electronics doing almost all the work.
