Is the valve bad? Usually the igniter is the part to blame, even though it glows. A weak igniter does not pass enough current to open the valve. Measuring its current settles it; the valve is replaced only when the igniter tests good and the valve still stays shut. ### My oven smells of gas for a moment when it lights. Is that normal? A faint whiff in the first second or two, while the burner lights, can be normal. A smell that lingers, grows stronger, or appears when the oven is off is not. In that case turn the oven off, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside. ### The oven heats, but the broiler will not light. Is that the same repair?
