A range oven door is held shut by two spring-loaded hinges that slide into slots in the frame, and sealed by a gasket around the opening. When the door will not close, it is usually one of three things: a hinge that is bent or has a broken spring, a door that was lifted off for cleaning and not seated back in its slots, or something in the way, such as a rack pulled too far, a pan handle or a gasket that came loose. A range door sits low and takes the weight of people leaning on it and children climbing on it, which bends hinges over time.
