Which range suits the kitchen

# Choosing and comparing guides.

Gas against electric, dual-fuel against induction, freestanding against slide-in and pro-style — what each costs to run, how it cooks and what it is like to keep repaired.

## Choosing and comparing, guide by guide.

These guides are for the moment a range decision is on the table: a remodel with a 30-inch gap to fill, an older range with a repair estimate stuck to the oven door, or a household torn between a flame, a glowing element and an induction zone. They compare kinds of range, from gas and electric to dual-fuel, pro-style and induction, rather than ranking the companies that make them.

### [Repair or replace a range: which half failed, and what a new one needs](https://rangerepair.center/guides/repair-or-replace-a-range/)

Igniters, elements, sensors and hinges are worth fixing on nearly any range; a board nobody makes, rust through the oven body or a new circuit for a bigger model are where the sums change.

### [Gas, electric or induction: how each kind of range heats a pan](https://rangerepair.center/guides/gas-electric-or-induction/)

Flame, glowing element or magnetic field — what each heat source does to the pan, the kitchen air, the circuit behind the range and the repairs it tends to need.

### [Dual-fuel and pro-style ranges: what the extra power asks of the house](https://rangerepair.center/guides/dual-fuel-and-pro-style-ranges/)

Gas burners over an electric oven, wider frames and heavier grates: the gas line, the 240-volt circuit, the ventilation and the service access a big range brings with it.

## Which range suits the kitchen.

We write them from the repair side. The range you pick decides which supply has to stand behind it, how heavy the frame is when it has to slide out, which parts wear first and whether those parts are likely to be around in ten years, and very little of that appears on a showroom tag.

Start here if you are planning a kitchen, weighing a switch of fuel, or deciding whether the range you already own deserves one more repair.

### The short answer Repair or replace a range: which half failed, and what a new one needs

Whether to repair or replace a range depends on which half failed and what a new one would ask of the kitchen.

### The short answer Gas, electric or induction: how each kind of range heats a pan

Choosing a gas or induction range, or a conventional electric one, comes down to how each delivers heat.

### The short answer Dual-fuel and pro-style ranges: what the extra power asks of the house

A dual-fuel range pairs gas burners on top with an electric oven below, so it needs both a gas supply and a 240-volt circuit.

## When reading is not enough.

If the checks in these guides did not settle it, the visit picks up from there, stop by stop.

[What repairs cost](https://rangerepair.center/cost/)

1. 01 Every burner and the oven, tried
2. 02 A price before any part goes in
3. 03 Common parts on board
4. 04 Fixed, then run hot

## Questions about choosing and comparing.

### Do these guides recommend a particular brand of range?

No. They compare designs across makers and name a manufacturer only where its own published figures back a specific point, such as the circuit a range of a given width needs.

### Where do the efficiency and circuit figures come from?

From ENERGY STAR, EPA and the manufacturers' own support pages and manuals, linked beside the sections that use them. The installation instructions for your exact model always come first.

### Can a comparison guide tell me what is wrong with my range?

It explains how the kind of range shapes the decision. Pinning down the actual failure takes the model number and a look at the range itself, which the troubleshooting guides and a diagnostic visit cover.

## The other sections.

Split by what you are trying to find out rather than by which part of the appliance it concerns.
